To avoid slowing down the security line, get your laptop or any other large device out of its case, empty your pockets, and take off your jacket and accessories while you’re still waiting in line. Also, you may want to wear socks with your shoes to avoid being stuck barefoot.

#4 – Not scouting the arrival airport

Whenever you have a connecting flight, you need to carefully plan your route to the next gate before getting off your first flight. Why? Because in case your stopover is only one hour or less, it’s the timing difference between missing or making it to the next flight.

Use your smartphone to view the map of your arrival airport or just check the map page you can find in an in-flight magazine.

#5 – Parking in a ridiculously expensive lot

To park in the closest lot to the airport terminal, you’ll have to pay a premium, while if you go for discount lots, you’ll have to drive longer. These two cases are often a result of not arriving earlier.

Next time, make sure to get there early so you can be as choosy as you want about where to park your vehicle. That’s what savvy flyers never fail to do.

#6 – Over-packing

Loaded bags make traveling (and moving around) difficult and very uncomfortable, especially for travelers with kids. Overweight baggage won’t only give you a really hard time but can also result in steep penalties.

Make sure to weigh your bags before you step into the airport, or if you can, keep re-editing the components of your bags at home until you’re left with only the things you actually need. One simple rule: pack less to stress less.

#7 – Traveling with an about-to-expire passport

While it’s technically still valid, carrying a passport that’s about to expire may prevent you from traveling, thus ruining all your plans. In fact, some countries will not allow you in if you have a passport that will expire in the next 3 months, or sometimes even 6 months of your planned entry date.
