#4 – Save the local emergency Numbers in Your Contacts
If you are home and there is an emergency you will call 911, but that number won’t work in other countries, so it is always good to save the emergency numbers of the country you are traveling to in your contacts (ambulance, fire department, and the police). To be ready for anything that might come your way, you can always save the number of your own country’s embassy.
If you are a U.S citizen, you can sign up for the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program and if there is an emergency, your embassy can reach out to you.
Some iPhones will even give you the chance of calling the local emergency number automatically – you can access Emergency SOS by pressing a combination of buttons on your phone, depending on the model of your phone.
#5 – Stay Between the Third and Sixth Floors
When you are booking your hotel room, you will probably prioritize the views or the amenities, but you should really be prioritizing your safety.
Experts advise that you get a room that is between the third and sixth floors. This way, there is a smaller chance that anyone will break into your room, but you will still be close to the fire ladders.
#6 – Don’t run out of gas
Keep this travel hack in mind especially if you are traveling in a remote area, in a desert, or in any extreme cold part of the world. Finding yourself in the middle of nowhere with an empty tank can actually become life-threatening, so keep an eye on your gas tank to avoid having to fill it in a suspicious area.
#7 – Be mindful when drinking
Traveling to a foreign country can already make you vulnerable and if you are not cautious with your alcohol intake, it will only make matters worse.
Do not let your beverage out of your sight, avoid drinking too much and read about the local laws when it comes to alcohol consumption – there are places in the world where it is illegal to drink on the street, for example.
