#6 – The Japanese army

The seventh toughest military force in the world is that of Japan, the land where legendary Samurai warriors and powerful emperors lived.

With more than 247,000 active army personnel and almost 60,000 in backup, 131 war ships, 288 fighter jets, and 700 combat tanks, the Japanese military protects its country and population of 26.86 million people.

Japan’s Self-Defense Forces budget is estimated at an annual $49.1 billion, making it the world’s sixth-highest number of military spendings.

Japan’s military expansion has started 40 years ago, in response to its disputes with China.

#5 – The French army

France’s current military spending is estimated at $35 billion a year. French Armed Forces comprise the army, navy, air force, the Gendarmerie of the French Republic, and the National Guard.

The French army has more than 220,000 regular personnel and reservists, making up a total military force of 500,000 members.

France has a population of 66.99 million (2019), 296 fighter aircraft, 406 war tanks, 118 war ships, and over 9,000 ground vehicles.

Although such estimates do not make France one of the pioneering military forces in the world, the country possess 290 nuclear weapons in addition to its prominent position in the European Union and the United Nations.

#4 – The Indian army

As the country with the second-largest population in the world, estimated at 1.37 billion, after China, India has built an army of 3.5 million members, and therefore, secured its place as one of the countries with the largest and strongest armies.

India does not only have 1,785 aircraft, 295 naval assets, and over 16,000 land vehicles which include 3,500 tanks, it also has nuclear weapons and giant missiles. The country’s current annual defense budget is estimated at $46 billion.

India has set an action plan to modernize its military force and secure the position of the country with the fourth-highest military spending by 2020.
