#8 – If you don’t feel safe, be ready to spend money
Like we have said before, saving money is great, but keeping ourselves safe is even better. If you are out at night, invest in your safety and do not walk home alone– spend some money on a cab or call an uber.
The same rule applies if you have picked a motel in a place that makes you feel uncomfortable, or if you have an Airbnb host that seems sketchy. Spend more money if needed, but keep yourself safe!
#9 – Follow your taxi route
If you are getting into a taxi, an uber or anything like that, use your phone to know where you are going to make sure that you don’t end up in a sketchy area, or that the person who is driving isn’t getting out of the route.
If you’re starting to feel unsafe, ask to get out at an area where there are people, so that you can ask for help, or call an emergency number.
#10 – Schedule your room before you arrive
In this day and age, it is not ok to just go somewhere and not book a hotel or an Airbnb – it doesn’t make any sense since you can actually get good prices if you book in advance.
Plus, putting yourself in the kind of situation where you get to a new city and end up wandering around aimlessly for hours is just kind of foolish. If you do end up sleeping in your rental car, try to stay at an airport garage – at least they have security there.
#11 – Be careful with your allergies
Some allergies can be life-threatening, so you should invest some of your time in planning your allergy management.
If you are allergic to, let’s say, peanuts, you should learn how to pronounce and spell peanuts in the language of the county you are traveling to. Maybe wear a medical bracelet that indicates this fact and, of course, do not forget your allergy medicine.
